His name is Adeyemi Omojola. I met him in March 2023 when we went for evangelism at Araromi Olowu village. The next month, on the day I spent the first night in the village, I engaged in a conversation with him despite his look and took a picture with him. Surprisingly after like 2 mins of talking to me, he started prophesying to me. I mean literally telling me what I have come to do in the village, how dangerous the place is and how I have to be prepared for battle and so much more. I was held spellbound and kept mute as he delivered the message. Just as he started suddenly, he stopped abruptly and started saying rubbish and I mean utter rubbish. He has delivered a message from the Lord and came back to his normal self.
He was very dirty, lives alone in a dark and unkempt place and can’t converse for a few minutes without speaking jargon and evil spirits and I didn’t know. I learnt afterwards that he was used for ritual and was dumped in the village and has been like that for decades. Over 20 years. Oh God!
I told him and others that God will heal him. Albeit with the kind of faith that God can heal him but not that God will heal him. I told him to come to me every week whenever I am in the village to pray for him and we became friends. The whole village now knows “Alaye” (a name given to him because of his insanity) as the friend of the new Pastor in the village.
Fast forward to last month and the unexpected happened. Alaye has been healed by Jesus. “The captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered…Isa 49:25. He can now understand well and speak well for hours without talking to invisible spirits. He can remember many things that have happened in the past and tells us and it made him want to cry always. This was confirmed by people around him. The “iyaloja”of the village told us he now believes he is totally healed.
The Holy Spirit ministered to me to preach the gospel to him even though he has been following us for a while.
I preached personally to him on Friday 1st Nov and it was so difficult convincing him as he kept saying God is not good as he allowed him to suffer for so long. He is around 70 years old, never married and has no kid. I was tired and left him alone and my wife counseled him. He told her he is afraid that we will be attacked by the spirits that talk with him if he accepts Jesus and we will leave him alone. She told him we are fortified in the name of Jesus and nothing will happen to us. We prayed for him again and sent away all the unclean spirits that did talk to him.
On Saturday 2nd Nov, I continued preaching to him and to my amazement he accepted Jesus and He prayed the prayer of confession and we were happy for him and told him the Spirits will not visit him again and if they do, He should just call the name of Jesus.
I went into my room and I didn’t know how to handle the emotion. I didn’t know when a tears dropped from my eyes. It was a bittersweet moment. How can a man who has been insane and casted away for years be accepting Jesus and a healthy man is denying his salvation.
Looking deep into his eyes, I can see regrets and deep sorrow but he has the joy of salvation. He has never had a wife and no kids at +/- 70 years. Live in utter darkness and always hungry. We are the only people to take care of him and give him food. He is now very frail and always asking us to get him something to do as people run from him. He even tells us he wants to work for God and he would be cleaning the church and the mission surrounding if we could build a church. All by himself. He has been insane and used for money ritual for the better part of his years and what hope is next for him. Without the knowledge of mission, I would never be engaging in a conversation with him.
We know this is the beginning of another journey of nurturing him in physical and spiritual food but may God help us. In the evening we invited him over to spend the evening with us as we smoked fresh corn to eat.
With him God has taught me great lessons of patience, perseverance and love. I now understand that God doesn’t want anyone to perish no matter what ..2 Pet 3:9 and the meaning of the song

“Alaye” is now a child of God, not just following us around and that is what matters most. He will spend eternity with Jesus.
